COOK, Ernest A.

age 27; entered service Oct. 6, 1917; Mrs. Susan Cook, mother; served in Co. C. 163rd Inf., Co. I. 164th Inf., Co. I. Service Bn.; discharged at Camp Mills, L. I., July 14, 1919; cook.

DANIELS, Herbert S.

J. W. Daniels, father, Warland; entered service Oct. 1917; served as cook in service batt. headquarters, Langres France; discharged July 18, 1919; private.

JAQUOT, Morris

Jennings, entered service Oct. 1917.*

MILLER, Dick

had served in regular army 15 years; enlisted with Montana guard in April, 1917. Went across with 41st and was transferred to 2nd Div. Battles at Chateau-Thierry, Soissons and Argonne; wounded by bayonet at Chateau-Thierry, and by machine gun bullets at Chateau-Thierry, and Soissons; was in hospital twice; seven weeks first time and five weeks second time. Got Croix de Guerre and French citation for extraordinary coolness and courage in action at Chateau-Thierry. In this engagement serving as a sniper in company with only one other man, Miller and his comrade were attacked by 19 Germans, who charged them. As they approached, the rifles of Miller and his"pal" dropped seven of them. One of their bullets then killed Miller's comrade, leaving Miller alone against twelve of the enemy, Miller shot three and killed eight with a hand grenade. He disposed of the last Hun after several minutes of dodging the enemy's bayonet, While Miller was trying to get a rifle away from the hand of his "pal."*
