Looking for a “vacation that’s different?”
Heralded as such was Pine
Crest Ranch near Luther, MT. Owned and operated by Lawrence W. Rankin and
wife, Nora. The picturesque destination located at the head of Butcher Creek
was claimed the land of “genuine cowboys” and promised vistas of a “hundred
sights.” Regular season ran from June 1 to November 15; for a weekly rate of
$35 you received a “comfortable” cabin, “outdoor sports, pure air and plenty
of wholesome food.” Along with the memories, available also were beaded
hatbands made by prisoners in Deer Lodge. The Missourian born Rankin
passed March 8, 1940. He had lived on the Luther ranch for 24yrs. The couple
had one son, Wilbur, and four daughters; Mary, Margaret, Joyce, and Juanita.
