Carbon County’s Bill Dygert; trapper,
trailblazer (literally marking the East Rosebud and many Beartooth
routes), mountain guide, cowboy and family man is a rodeo legend. Dygert began his rodeo career in 1939,
fortunate and talented enough to make a living doing what he loved.
He won the bull riding at the Red Lodge Rodeo in 1948, and at the
same venue went on to proudly capture the “All Around” title in 1949
and again in 1950. It is claimed, Dygert “won more titles” in Red
Lodge than any other cowboy. His last ride was at age 57. The
“cowboy’s cowboy passed in 1997.
