CARBON COUNTY, MONTANA

LOOKUPS

We're looking for people who own books, manuscripts, CD's, or other Carbon County resources who would be willing to do lookups for others. If you can help, please E-mail your name and the titles(s) of the materials you own to the Carbon County Coordinator or the State Coordinator if there is no CC.

Whether you are using the services of our lookup volunteers, or deciding to act as a volunteer yourself, it is very important that you read the following:

The USGenWeb ® Project Official Lookup Policy

USGenWeb ® will not tolerate any copyright violations. Lookup requests should be limited to one name, or perhaps two if it is a married couple. Information given will be minimal, for example if it is a cemetery book lookup, the information will be the name of the cemetery and the dates on the headstone. Please do not ask for "everybody with X surname" or an entire family group, or for hardcopies to be mailed; the volunteers have been asked not to comply with such requests. Our lookups will extend to searching the book to determine if the book would be helpful to you in your research. Should the book prove useful, we can provide the author's address and ordering information. The USGenWeb ® Project will endeavor to get a written statement from each copyright holder which stipulates which books may be used for lookups.

When requesting a lookup, please follow these guidelines in your e-mail message to the volunteer:

Subject should read, "CARBON COUNTY LOOKUP".
In the first line of your message, please list the name of the reference you wish checked.
Limit your request to one or two specific names.
Be sure to say "thank you" to the volunteer who helps you.

Joliet and It's Pioneers and Early Days by LtCdr George A. Oliver USN, Ret. Vicky Leimback This is an excellent book on Joliet and Carbon County. There are several surnames listed in the book with biographies. Before contacting Vicky, see the book index to see if the name you are researching is in the book. All lookups will be limited in order to fall under the "Fair Use of Copyright Law"

Carbon County Marriage Index, 1895-1950's Vicki Thauvin Vicki is willing to do lookups in this resource.
Please put "MT Carbon Marriage Lookup" as the subject.

1860-1920
Carbon County Census Hannah Hannah is willing to do a single name lookup in a given census year. Send email with:
Year requested
Name of person sought
Head of Household or child in a family
Wife's name if known
Any children, if known, for comparison
Location important for 1910 - there's no index
(She will not do an every name search. i.e. all the Smiths in Wyoming in 1920.)
