DEATH OF HENRY JACOBS
About 10 days ago Mr. Henry Jacobs, of Butte, was taken with fever,
which was not deemed serious, but last Monday pneumonia succeeded, and
in the three days his life was ended. He died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday
morning, aged about 55 years. Mr. Jacobs has been in Montana since
1866. He was engaged in merchandising in Diamond City for a time, and
subsequently came to Deer Lodge where he resided many years, leaving
when Butte had become a mining camp or promise. He has since resided
there, engaged in merchandising, and his popularity may be measured by
the fact that he was the first mayor of that city. Mr. Jacobs was a big
hearted generous, kindly-natured man of strictest integrity, posing
strong social faculties, and making many friends, with few enemies. He
was of exemplary character and habits, and was in good standing in the
Masonic, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias and Hebrew Benevolent
societies. He leaves a wife as highly esteemed as her husband, and six
children to mourn his loss.—[New North West]
Deceased is a brother-on-law of our fellow townsman, Leopold Marke, and
was one of the old-timers of Confederate, and during his residence there
endeared himself in many ways to the people of our country, who will
receive the news of his death with sorrow and regret. We extend
condolence to the bereaved.
