Voitto Peippo
VoittoPeippo was born in Finland and emigrated to the U.S. He was born in 1879/80 and died inSointula, June 1954 at the age of 74. We know that he was influencedby Matti Kurikka who was seeking settlers for his utopian society atSointula, Malcolm Island, B. C. as Voitto moved there in 1901 and wasthe concertmaster of their orchestra in 1902. There is a photo showinghim and the band and choir, that is quite well known here. He leftSointula in 1905 when the Kalensa Society broke up, lived in Vancouver,had 3 sons and he and their mother separated and he moved back toSointula for the remainder of his life. He visited the U. S. often, (wedon't know where, except for the latter years when he had cancer andvisited the Mayo Clinic for treatment). We are quite keen to find anymembers of the family that may be within the Butte area still, or whomay know where they are. As the Butte Montana photo shows him as ayoung man, we assume that he emigrated with family, but there is no trace of paperwork and he never returned to Finland.
