- COOK posted by Joe
Spence on Monday, April 6, 1998
- I am looking for any information on Charles W. Cook and Benjamin B.
Cook, both born in Unity, Maine. They were my grandfather's uncles.
Charles W. Cook came to Montana in the 1860's working as a teamster,
cowboy, and miner. He, along with David Folsom and William Peterson
spent a couple of months in 1869 exploring the Yellowstone park area,
and in 1871, Charles Cook brought a band of sheep to Montana from
Oregon, and settled in the Smith River Valley area. His younger brother
Benjamin Cook settled in the Gallitin City area in 1877. Both men were
involved in the Sheep industry of Montana. Is anyone out there
researching any of this family? I believe that Benjamin Cook married a
Mary Berry at Fort Benton, MT in 1878. Charles Cook had a daughter by
the name of Josephine Cook Mueller who lived in Lewiston, MT in 1946.
Any leads or information on this family would be appreciated. Thanks,
