Blaine County History

In 1912 Blaine, Phillips and Hill counties withdrew from Chouteau County to form their own counties. The original boundary of Blaine County included a portion of land in the west that is included in Phillips County. The county seat is Chinook. The county was named in honor of James G. Blaine, former United States Secretary of State. Blaine County is south of the Canada–US border with Saskatchewan.
