Dawson County was one of the original nine - early naturalization, homestead, marriage info may be found here. This is one of the few genenalogy groups in Eastern Montana. They maintain many records at the Glendive Library and volunteers will do limited look-ups for a small fee.

IGI - Vitals Ancestral Files
From their home page you can download a good free PAF genealogy software that offers nice organization, notes, and a ged.com exchange option. From the search tab, one can access the  Social Security Death Index, the 1880 US Census,  IGI files, which represents fairly accurate vitals taken from official state and church records.
"The Ancestral File is a collection of genealogical information taken from Pedigree Charts and Family Group Records submitted to the Family History Department since 1978.  The information has not been verified against any official records.  Since the information in Ancestral File is contributed, it is the responsibility of those who use the file to verify its accuracy."  Submitter Names can be located by clicking on the Details link.

Usually, a subscription fee is charged to access the records on these sites, birth, death, census, newspaper & World Family Tree WFT- a giant data base that combines a lot of searching for you -  a two-week free period to begin a subscription. Many states have free vitals indexes posted, check them out.
