OLIVE MAY CHAFFIN PETERSON

Olive May Chaffin was the daughter of Amos Calvin Chaffin and great granddaughter of Balaam Chaffin. She was born in Missoula, May 8, 1923 and married John Harry Peterson July 3, 1943. The couple had 2 children:, Janet Elaine, born May 31, 1946, and Jack Dennis, born July 4, 1947 in Missoula.

Olive's husband, John Peterson, was a major in the Air Force and has an outstanding record in the service. He flew 68 fighter missions in Europe during WWII, earing the distinguished Flying Cross, 11 air medals, the purple heart, 2 Presidential Citations, and the Air Force Commendation Medal during his 17-year career.

Olive has always been interest in family history. In 1964, she re-visited the Bitter Root Valley and talked with Glenn Chaffin and Hattie Mitchell. A lot of material was generously loaned to her and in January 1966, the genealogy was completed. Thanks to her, the Chaffin, Mitchell, and Summers families have been well documented.
