"Anaconda and the Upper Works in 1887"

This view looks across the fledgling city of Anaconda towards the present site of the Signature Jack Nicklaus "Old Works Golf Course."  This golf course was designed to remediate contaminated ground under the auspices of the Superfund Program, the EPA, and paid for by the Atlantic Richfield Company which was designated responsible party.  ARCO had purchased the old Anaconda Copper Mining Company in 1977.

This view is looking toward the hills on the north side of town where the
original smelter was located.

Pictures are from a little book titled "Anaconda Reduction Works."  Copyright 1920 by the Anaconda Copper Mining Company.  Anaconda, Montana.  There is no author or writer listed.
