Old Grange Hall originally built in 1914

The attached picture was taken in 1986, but is of the old Grange Hall originally built in 1914. In my mother's words..."In February of 1913, the residents of Castner Falls community organized a local of the National Grange Farm Organization. The stone was gotten from Castner Coulee. The laying of the the foundation was supervised by Frank G. Phillips. The first lumber was used to build a pavilion for a Fourth of July celebration. The hall was finished in 1914."

To those that don't know, National Grange is the popular name of the Order of the Patrons of Husbandry. Est. in 1867, it provided lectures and entertainment for farmers and their families, cooperative buying and selling of farm products and supplies and carried on educational programs. Meeting halls were constructed in thousands of farming communities, and the "Grange Hall" was in high demand for local meetings and social functions.
