Narrative on James Rabbidge

James Rabbidge was born in December 1852 in the village of Egg Buckland, Plymouth, Devon, England.

James was a Farmer's son. He married a Devonshire girl called Caroline Taylor in 1877 and they had a son called James Martin Rabbidge in 1878. Young James died about a year later in 1879. By the time of the 1881 English census James and Caroline had moved to Keynsham in Somerset, where he was a Dairyman. Later that year in September Caroline died and was buried near her parents home back in Devon.

In 1889, according to the American census of 1900 for Road District No1, Custer County, Montana, James emigrated to America. The strange thing about this census is that James has his name down on the census as Edward and although his birth month is down as December his age is wrong. His Father was called Edward and so was his Brother who died in 1877.

By the Census of 1910 he is living in School District 31, and is down as James Rabbidge and is described as a Rancher.

James purchased some land in Custer county. There is also a creek named Rabbidge Creek in one of those sectors (Link here).

James died on 13/12/1919 according to Ancestry. We believe he did not marry or have any more children whilst he lived in America.
